Ann Sychterz (Switzerland)

Ann (CA/PL) began dancing lindy hop in 2009 (balboa in 2011) in Waterloo, Ontario (not far from Toronto). Music played in beginner lindy hop lessons peaked her interest to find out more about swing jazz. Since getting her first songs, she has DJed in Waterloo and Toronto as her home scenes until she moved to Switzerland for her PhD. She has had the fortune of playing in Lausanne (local scene), Bern, Luzern, Zurich, as well as in London, Berlin, Hamburg, Dresden, Dortmund, Toulouse, Genoa, and Moscow. She had sets during the California Balboa Classic and All Balboa Weekend. Digging through old stuff and new (though a particular soft spot for the old stuff), small group to big band, North American and European, she aims to create an atmosphere worthy of creativity and playing around with the dance.

Emily Schumann (Kentucky)

Hailing from Louisville, Kentucky Emily Schuhmann’s been inspiring dancers to find their voice and connection with music that is as playful, spirited, intelligent, and conversational as she is! She loves a good mix of tunes tailored to the event and the dancers and as a Bal dancer, she particularly loves to play clever versions of favorite tunes. She’s been absolutely obsessed with vintage music, dance and fashion since the early 2000’s and brings that to her song selections. You’ll find her infectious smile and love of dance coming across on the floor and also adding a bounce to the music you’ll enjoy when she’s in the booth!

Brennan Bowman (Chicago)

Brennan’s obsession with jazz began back in his young adolescent years but it wasn’t until 2009 that he started on his journey of playing for dance floors. Having honed his skills beginning in college swing clubs all over the midwest, he has now spun at regional and national events including Lindy on the Rocks, Great Lakes Balboa 2016, and Hawkeye Swing Festival as well as serving as the Head DJ for Chicago’s premiere weekly swing dance, Fizz. Brennan continually strives to find new and old music that inspires and challenges dancers to create art in all dance forms. So whether you like the screaming brass of Earl Hines and his Orchestra or the subtle and intricate clarinet lines of Artie Shaw, Brennan is ready to bring the party yet again to Great Lakes Balboa!
