Alex Lieu

Alex started his dance journey with Lindy Hop back in 2005, having taken classes at Seattle’s iconic Century Ballroom. He was lucky enough to have taken classes with Peter Loggins and Mia Goldsmith Halloran, learning his first Balboa steps before moving to Switzerland with his wife Amy in 2010. There, he took the opportunity to explore Europe’s vibrant Balboa dance scene, to further develop his floor craft and connect himself with the dance community. Alex’s true passion lies in social dancing, where he enjoys the connection and freedom of expression that swing dances offer. As an instructor, he focuses on building strong fundamentals while encouraging students to develop their own style. Having overcome spinal injuries, Alex emphasizes healthy movement habits and body awareness in his teaching.
Currently based in Geneva, Switzerland, Alex and Amy teach weekly classes in Balboa, Shag, and Lindy Hop, fostering a welcoming and inclusive community. They also travel to teach across Europe and Asia, sharing their passion for Swing dance. When he’s not dancing, Alex can often be found practicing his French, all while keeping his English polished—just as any dedicated Swiss-American would do.
